BOSTON (AP) - Pavel Datsyuk scored at 16:59 of the third period, moments after Jimmy Howard's best save of the game, and the Detroit Red Wings beat the top-seeded Boston Bruins 1-0 in the opener of their Eastern Conference playoff series Friday night. The winning goal came when Datsyuk carried the puck from the right side to the left in Boston's zone and put a 30-footer from near the left circle past goalie Tuukka Rask's left glove.

DETROIT (AP) - Albert Pujols hit his 497th home run and Howie Kendrick added two of his own to lead the Los Angeles Angels to an 11-6 win over the Detroit Tigers on Friday night. The Angels chased Detroit starter Drew Smyly (1-1) after three innings and then added seven runs off reliever Luke Putkonen.

DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Tigers have recalled right-hander Justin Miller from Triple-A Toledo and optioned outfielder Tyler Collins to Toledo. Miller's arrival gives Detroit an extra option in the bullpen on a night when left-hander Drew Smyly is making his first start of the season. The 26-year-old Miller has never pitched in the major leagues.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - Michigan coach Brady Hoke says there's an arms race among college football programs to have the nation's best facilities. Hoke says you're not going to find a better one than Schembechler Hall. Michigan gave the media a tour on Friday of the new-look building, which has been renovated for $9 million.
