Local Gymnasts Cartwheel for a Good Cause

Event Dates and Times

2/26/2018 - 3/3/2018
Grand Blanc Gymnastics 3166 Tri Park Drive, Grand Blanc, MI 48439
Students at Grand Blanc Gymnastics will cartwheel for a good cause during the week of February 26, 2018 to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at Hurley Children’s Hospital, benefitting a program that helps children battle cancer, birth defects, accident, trauma and just about any health challenge.

“Our main goal at Grand Blanc Gymnastics is to teach children life lessons through the sport of gymnastics. We believe that helping others in need is one of those vital life lessons that should be taught at an early age. All of the funds raised go directly to help the children in THIS community. We are proud to be part of such an important annual event. Our gym and our 500-plus students are proud to support Hurley in this important effort. We want to do everything we can to help strengthen children’s healthcare throughout Genesee County, and to help the children at Hurley,” said Renee Krause of Grand Blanc Gymnastics.

The Tumble-a-thon will feature gymnasts from toddlers to high school students performing forward rolls and cartwheels for 60 seconds to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. People can either make a single donation, or make a donation per gymnastic activity.

Children's Miracle Network Hospitals is a system of 170 hospitals across the United States and Canada dedicated to providing the best care for sick and injured children. Hurley joined CMN Hospitals in 1990, and is one of only four CMN Hospitals in Michigan. Hurley Children’s Hospital provides quality, child-centered care to all who need it, regardless of their family’s ability to pay.

The Hurley Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, will collect the funds raised for CMN. To make a donation, please call 810-262-9667 or visit the Hurley Foundation website at www.hurleyfoundation.org.

In 1967, Flint Mayor Floyd McCree, resigned his appointed position, stating, “I refuse to live an equal opportunity lie.” He did so in protest of the city commission’s defeat of an open housing ordinance. For despite his status as the first African American mayor of a large American city, McCree inhabited what had become one of the most racially segregated cities in America. Understanding Flint’s history means understanding how its built environment and communities developed along highly racialized lines.

Using objects and images from Sloan Museum’s collection, this exhibition examines the housing segregation that characterized Flint’s residential development, as well as efforts to wrest the city free from discriminatory housing practices.

Journey 80 million years back in time to an age when mighty dinosaurs dominated the land – and an equally astonishing assortment of ferocious creatures swarm, hunted, and fought for survival beneath the vast, mysterious prehistoric seas. Stunning, photo-realistic imagery re-creates the perilous underwater realm of two young, dolphin-sized marine reptiles called Dolichorhynchops, or Dollies, and follows their incredible journey through waters ruled by some of the most awesome predators ever to prowl the Earth's oceans.
