GLADWIN COUNTY (WJRT) (12/26/2017) - A 21-year-old man has been charged with murder after an altercation in the driveway of a Gladwin County residence escalated into a shooting on Friday.

The Gladwin County Sheriff's Office responded to a residence in Hay Township around 7:30 p.m. for reports of a person shot. Deputies found 27-year-old Blake Vansnepson dead from a gunshot wound lying at the end of the driveway on Hay Road near East Highwood Road.

Police believe 21-year-old Tre Friend of Beaverton got into a verbal altercation with Vansnepson , which escalated into a physical fight and then the shooting. Friend was arrested at the scene.

Gladwin County sheriff deputies spoke with a witness who had fled the scene just before authorities arrived on the scene.

Friend was arraigned Tuesday on charges of open murder, carrying a concealed weapon without a permit and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He remained in custody Tuesday at the Gladwin County Jail on $1 million bond.

Police were still investigating the incident on Tuesday. Authorities didn't release information about what sparked the initial fight.

Friend is scheduled to appear in court next week for another hearing.
