FREELAND (WJRT) (12/5/2017) - Tittabawassee Township police are asking parents to check their daughters' social media accounts while they investigate a man who allegedly has posed as a young boy online seeking inappropriate photos.
Police say a 37-year-old man, who was not identified, has been posing as a 12-year-old boy from Saginaw County in online communications with girls in the Freeland Community School District. He has asked girls to send him inappropriate photos of themselves.
The suspect mostly has been communicating with girls via direct messages on Instagram under the screen names of “Saginawbaseball;trevor” “tKnightFreeland:Saginaw Baseball” or “23basketballJones23;Knight”
Tittabawassee Township Police Det. Brian Berg said officers have identified the suspect, executed search warrants in the case and have been in contact with the parents of students known to be in contact with the suspect.
"We have identified one individual involved in these incidents and do not believe this individual poses a threat at this point," Berg wrote in a press release issued on Tuesday afternoon.
Freeland Community Schools Superintendent Matt Cairy issued a criminal trespass warning to the suspect, barring him from setting foot on any school property for any reason.
As of Tuesday, no criminal charges had been filed in the case as the investigation continued. Reports will be sent to the Saginaw County Prosecutor's Office, which will decide whether any charges will be filed.
Anyone with information about the case or whose child may have received an Instagram message from the suspect is asked to email firstname.lastname@example.org.
