LANSING (WJRT) (2/28/2018) - A woman formerly of Lansing was sent to prison Tuesday for operating a sex trafficking ring involving herself and other young women.
Amber Speed, 41, will spend five to 20 years in prison after an Ingham County jury convicted her in January of operating a sex trafficking ring involving minors in the Lansing area.
Speed was posting advertisements for a commercial escort enterprise involving herself and three others, who all were under the age of 18 when they were brought into the ring.
The Michigan Attorney General's Office says the sex trafficking ring was actively selling sexual liaison services from 2009 through 2014. A Michigan State Police trooper who had attended special human trafficking training launched an investigation after coming across the ring.
The Attorney General's Office initially charged Speed with two counts of sex trafficking a minor, two counts of prostitution or pandering and one count of accepting earnings from prostitution. All carry a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
