ALERT: Dispatchers discover 911 pendant doesn't work as promised

EMMET COUNTY (WJRT) - (11/16/17) - Central dispatch in northern Michigan is sending out a warning about a device that is claiming to help people contact 911.

The Charlevoix, Cheboygan and Emmet Central Dispatch Authority says the $149 pendant does not work and the best way to reach authorities during an emergency is to directly dial 911.

A man from Petoskey brought the device in for help activating it and dispatchers say it did not work as promised.

There is no location information transmitted to the 911 center, so if the caller can't talk or doesn't know where they are, central dispatch would not be able to find them.
