ALPENA (WJRT) (3/1/2018) - Three schools in Alpena were placed on lockdown Thursday morning while police responded to reports of a person with a weapon.

Alpena Public Schools said police requested Ella White Elementary School be placed on a full lockdown around 11 a.m. after someone reported seeing a person possibly carrying a weapon near the school.

Under a full lockdown, nobody is allowed to enter or exit the building.

Administrators also placed Thunder Bay Junior High School and Alpena High School on a soft lockdown as a precaution, also at the request of police.

All of the lockdowns were lifted around 12:45 p.m. Police planned to maintain an increased presence around the schools for the remainder of Thursday as a precaution.

The district says all students are safe and nobody is aware of anyone improper trying to gain entry to a school building.
