At 11 p.m.: Helicopter pilots worried about sharing the airspace with drones

MID-MICHIGAN (WJRT) (10/30/2017) - Medical helicopter pilots say it’s not a matter of if but when a drone will accidentally bring down a chopper.

Helicopter pilots say they’re seeing drones more often at accident and crime scenes. The helicopter pilots are flying at very low altitudes, exactly where the drones are operating.

Two pilots tell us they’ve had to take evasive action to avoid hitting these drones, which can be as small as 6 inches. If a drone did collide with a helicopter, the results could be catastrophic.

Tonight on ABC12 News at 11, Randy Conat talks with helicopter pilots about this growing danger and what can be done about it.
