MIDLAND COUNY (WJRT) (2/16/2018) - A Beaverton woman died late Thursday after her car collided with a tree in a rural area of Midland County.

Melissa Maxwell, 37, was driving a 2006 Toyota Camry east on West Barden Road near Grant Street when her car went off the right shoulder and hit a tree.

She was pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigators from the Midland County Sheriff's Office say Maxwell was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and her vehicle’s airbags had deployed.

Her body was taken to MidMichigan Medical Center for an autopsy. The sheriff’s office is waiting for toxicology reports for a final determination on whether she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
