HURON COUNTY (WJRT) (1/10/2018) - A Caseville Township woman died early Wednesday after a fire destroyed her home.

The Caseville Area Fire Department responded to the 8900 block of Crescent Beach Road around 4:15 a.m. after a neighbor reported the house was on fire.

While en route, firefighters learned two people could be inside and requested assistance from the Fairhaven and Winsor fire departments.

A Huron County sheriff's deputy arrived on the scene first and spoke with one of the two people who was reportedly inside the house when the fire started. That person was waiting outside, but told the deputy the woman was still inside.

The house was engulfed in flames when Caseville firefighters arrived on the scene. Firefighters spent about an hour and a half knocking down the flames before they could get inside to search for the woman.

Her body was located on the porch just outside the front door.

The Huron County Medical Examiner's Office scheduled an autopsy for Thursday. Police could not positively identify the woman Wednesday due to the condition of her body.

Investigators from the Michigan State Police Fire Marshal Division were assisting with determining what sparked the fire. The cause and origin of the fire was not known Wednesday.
