FLINT TOWNSHIP (WJRT) - (02/09/18) - One person is sent to the hospital, after being hit while standing along the side of eastbound I-69 after being involved in a minor accident.

The incident happened in Flint Township just before 7:00 p.m. Friday near Bristol Road.

Police tell ABC12 they initially had a report of a two car accident on the freeway. The occupants of those two vehicles got out and were talking to each other on the roadside when two additional cars collided nearby.

A driver in the second crash couldn't regain control before hitting one of the two individuals standing outside of her vehicle.

Police say the person was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition.

Both I-69 and Bristol Road are shut down temporarily as police investigate.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation but icy road conditions are believed to be a contributing factor.

Officers are reminding people to drive for conditions, and to not get out of their car should they find themselves in an accident.
