Chemical discovery forces metro-Detroit businesses to close

FRANKLIN (WJRT) - (03/07/2018) - Several metro-Detroit businesses are forced to close after an unknown chemical found in the building's crawlspace.

According to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, more than 40 gallons of unknown volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were discovered in a tank under Franklin Village Plaza in Franklin.

The MDEQ was not able to identify the chemical, and does not know if it's harmful. Testing is underway to identify the VOCs in the tank, and determine the next steps.
