FLINT (WJRT) (3/7/2018) - An incinerator that cremated thousands of animals at the Genesee County Animal Shelter is nearly gone.
Burnash Wrecking began demolishing it this week. The shelter used the incinerator to dispose of deceased animals, but it has been out of service for several years.
The demolition is part of an $8 million expansion project that the Genesee County Board of Commissioners approved in January. The area where the incinerator is now will be turned into dog runs.
The rest of the project includes adding about 10,000 square feet to the building, creating separate spaces for stray and adoptable animals, building new dog kennels and replacing outdated ventilation systems.
