ABC12 Diaper Drive

This month, when you walk into your dentist's office, you may see something a little unusual - a giant scene from frozen, an igloo or even a tooth fairy.

All these creations have something in common - they are designed to help make a life-changing difference to Genesee County's youngest patients.

There are diaper donation sites throughout Genesee County.

To vote for your favorite diaper creation, click the link in the ‘Related Links’ section of this story. You have two weeks to pick a favorite and cast your ballot.

When families can’t afford diapers, they are faced with a choice between buying diapers and paying for food, rent or utilities like heat. That’s a choice no parent should ever face.

Right now, one in three families in our community is struggling to afford diapers and few resources exist to help them. Because state and federal assistance cannot be used to buy diapers, many of these children are forced to stay in diapers for days at a time - increasing the risk of diaper rash, infections, neglect and even child abuse.

You can make a difference during our ninth annual ABC12 Elga Credit Union Diaper Drive on Friday, May 5. Every penny raised goes to The Flint Diaper Bank – a nonprofit founded by Phil Shaltz and our own Angie Hendershot.

Come donate from 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. at Elga Credit Union on Center Road and help change babies and our community.
