FLINT (WJRT) (7/12/2018) - The FBI and local law enforcement agencies were conducting raids at houses on Flint's south side on Thursday.
Authorities swarmed the two houses in the 800 block of Leland Street near Fenton Road in the morning. They moved on to a house in the 1300 block of Pinehurst Avenue in the afternoon.
FBI agents wearing dust masks were seen bringing items out of the houses. Neighbor Michael Hogan heard some FBI agents mention blood evidence inside one of the houses.
Authorities could not immediately say specifically what they were hoping to find during the raids. An FBI spokesman at the Detroit Field Office would only confirm the raids were part of a law enforcement operation.
The neighborhood south of Atherton Road and west of Grand Traverse Street, where the raids were taking place, is plastered with signs depicting women who are missing in the Flint area.
Jennie Stein, a community activist, said at least seven women have vanished in Flint -- most of them from the south side.
"I guess today they were just in the house collecting evidence," she said. "There was some evidence that needed a second look at it. There was something inside that house that we called about in April that made them come back today."
Hogan said the houses on Leland Street that authorities raided have been vacant for quite a while. Neighbors had suspicions that drug dealing and prostitution took place there.
