CORUNNA (WJRT) (12/8/2017) - One of the two brothers convicted of killing two Flint men in the parking lot of Walmart in Owosso has been sentenced.

Shiawassee County Circuit Judge Matthew Stewart sentenced 31-year-old Otis Smith Grand Rapids to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the death of two men.

The shooting deaths happened last January when a Craigslist transaction went wrong in Shiawassee County's Caledonia Township.

Smith and his brother, Anthony Holloway, both were found guilty in October in Shiawassee County Circuit Court on first-degree murder charges. They killed Joseph Carson and Anthony Hammond in the parking of the Walmart on M-21.

Police say Carson and Hammond had set up a deal to sell medical marijuana to Smith and Holloway, who they had contacted through Craigslist. During the exchange the two brothers shot Carson and Hammond to death.

Erin Mongar, who had been dating Smith at the time and drove the getaway car, pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder.

Hammond's sister, Tarisha Wright, read a statement to the court that explained how devastated the family is by their loss.

"I'm extremely pleased with the outcome of the sentencing today," she said. "It's good to know that he is probably never going to see the light of day and never going to be able to hurt another family like he did mine and Joe Carson's family. My mother obviously is the most wounded. She lost her son."

Holloway is scheduled to be sentenced next week. First-degree murder carries a mandatory penalty of life in prison without the possibility of parole in Michigan.
