FLINT (WJRT) (5/29/2018) - Flint Area School Employees Credit Union has changed its name to Sovita, which it says better reflects its member commitment.
The credit union started 84 years ago serving the educational community around Flint, as its name suggests. Since then, the institution has expanded to serve health care workers and five Mid-Michigan counties.
Today, anyone who works in the education or health care industries or their families in Genesee, Lapeer, Livingston, Oakland and Shiawassee counties is eligible to join the credit union.
The new Sovita name combines the Latin words meaning "social" and "life." The name can be translated from Latin to mean "the life of the community," according to the credit union.
The Sovita brand identity will launch July 2 with a new logo and website. The credit union will retain all of its current locations, staff and management after the change.
Account details and contact information also will remain the same. The change is not part of a merger or acquisition.
