FLINT (WJRT) (12/18/2017) - Youth in Flint will have a new recreational option available this winter when the city partners with community organizations to launch a new basketball league.

Flint Mayor Karen Weaver scheduled a press conference for 3:30 p.m. Tuesday to announce the formation of the league in cooperation with Chris McLavish Basketball (CMB), ReCAST, Foss Avenue Baptist Church and Cathedral of Faith Church.

The league will be the first organized by the city in more than 15 years.

“When I’m out in the community, people often comment that there isn’t enough for kids to do,” said Sean Croudy, director of community recreation for the city. “Our goal is to provide our youth with a positive, fun activity in a safe environment. This league will not only teach youth about basketball, but also help build self-esteem, teach how to work with others as a team, and get kids to be more active.”

Sign up for the league is free and will take place Dec. 19, 20 and 21 at Cathedral of Faith Church at 6031 Dupont St.

Tuesday's press conference is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Cathedral of Faith, where more information will be announced.
