FLINT (WJRT) (5/15/2018) - Nominating petitions are available for anyone who wants to run for an open seat on the Flint Community Schools Board of Education in November.
Three board members' terms are expiring but only one seat is up for grabs after voters approved shrinking the board from nine members to seven last year.
Whoever is elected will serve a six-year term that expires in December 2024.
To run, candidates must be 18 or older, registered to vote and live within the boundaries of the Flint Community Schools district and fill out a nominating petition, which is available at the City Clerk's Office on the second floor of City Hall.
Petitions must be returned to the Clerk's Office by 4 p.m. July 24 for a candidate to appear on the ballot.
Candidates can pay a $100 fee when they turn in the petition or collect at least 40 valid signatures from registered voters in the district to waive the fee.
