FLINT (WJRT) (3/6/2018) - The "Fresh Prince" and his son are teaming up to donate a large amount of fresh water to Flint.
Will Smith and his son, Jaden, announced a donation of 9,200 bottles of water to the area. They also plan to continue donating bottled water until lead levels in public school water fall below the federal action limit.
The Smiths just launched an eco-friendly water company.
The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality began testing water in Flint Community Schools buildings on Jan. 20. The first round of samples were taken from dozens of faucets and drinking fountains in 13 schools.
Of the 705 samples taken:
-- 97.2 percent had lead levels below the federal action level of 15 parts per billion.
-- 96.2 percent had lead levels at or below 10 parts per billion.
-- 92.6 percent had lead levels at or below the bottled water standard of 5 parts per billion.
-- 66.7 percent had no detectable lead levels.
The district has agreements with Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Nestle and Walmart to provide the bottled water for staff and students through the end of this school year in June 2018.
