GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP (WJRT) (12/12/2017) - A garage fire left a Grand Blanc Township family homeless on Tuesday evening.

The fire started around 8:30 p.m. in the 5200 block of Lethbridge Road in the Williamsburg Farms subdivision off Belsay Road.

The Grand Blanc Fire Department arrived to find heavy smoke and fire pouring from the attached garage and flames spreading into the home. Fire crews were able to knock down most of the flames before they spread into the living space.

The Grand Blanc and Atlas Township fire departments were still on the scene dousing hot spots and salvaging contents after 11 p.m.

A living room behind the garage and the adjacent kitchen both suffered fire damage while the rest of the house sustained some smoke and water damage.

The residents were able to escape without injury and no firefighters reported injuries from battling the blaze.

Grand Blanc Fire Chief Robert Burdette said the cause of the fire remained under investigation late Tuesday. He estimated damages at around $100,000.

The family living in the home has insurance.
