KOCHVILLE TOWNSHIP (WJRT) (1/26/2018) - More than 100 employers are expected to be on hand recruiting summer interns and workers at Saginaw Valley State University's annual Summer Job and Internship Fair.
The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Curtiss Hall banquet rooms. Students and the general public are invited to attend.
Last year, 100 representatives were on hand to recruit interns and seasonal workers. The university already had 99 companies signed up to take part five days before the event.
Companies planning to attend Jan. 30 include Independent Bank, Morley Companies, Nexteer Automotive, Quicken Loans and Verizon Wireless.
"We're definitely going to set another record with this one," said Mike Major, director of SVSU's Career Services.
The university now hosts eight job fairs every year with representatives from 593 companies taking part. That is an increase of 179 companies over the number who came to SVSU job fairs in 2015.
Major attributed the increased interest to factors including his office's growing relationships with employer representatives as well as positive reception to the industrious character of the job-seekers attending SVSU's fairs.
"Employers want talented people with hard-working ethics, and they see that in our students and the members of the public who show up to our fairs," Major said. "It's those qualities -- those 'roll-your-sleeves-up' and 'get-the-job-done' types -- that attract a lot of the companies we work with."
SVSU's other job fairs scheduled in 2018 are:
-- The Manufacturing and Information Technology Employment Fair hosted each February.
-- The Spring University-Wide Employment Fair each April.
-- The Education Employment Fair each June.
-- The Part-time Job Fair each August.
-- The Accounting and Finance Fair each September.
-- The Fall University-Wide Employment Fair each October.
-- The Health and Human Services Employment Fair each November.
