Lapeer County police investigating Craigslist concert ticket scam

LAPEER (WJRT) (9/19/2017) - Police in Lapeer County are investigating a string of fraudulent concert tickets sold on Craigslist in recent weeks.

A victim called the Lapeer County Sheriff's Office on Sept. 8 after purchasing tickets to a Tim McGraw and Faith Hill concert that was scheduled in Detroit. The tickets were listed on the Detroit Craigslist site with a phone number of 330-299-8557.

The buyer communicated with the seller several times via text messages and phone calls before completing the deal. They reached a deal and met in person near Ortonville to exchange the tickets and money, according to the sheriff's office.

The buyer then brought the tickets to the Palace of Auburn Hills for the concert, but workers there told him the tickets were fraudulent. The credit card used to purchase the tickets originally came back stolen, so the sale was voided.

Police believe the suspect has bought a number of tickets through Ticketmaster for concerts using stolen credit card numbers, photocopied the tickets and then listed the tickets for sale on Craigslist several times. The sheriff's office found more tickets for the Tim McGraw and Faith Hill concert, a recent Bob Seger concert at the Palace and the Kid Rock concert at Little Caesars Arena.

The suspect was described as a woman in her mid-40s about 5-foot-5 with an olive complexion. She went by the name Tina Mcraw.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Lapeer County Sheriff's Office at 801-664-1801.
