(06/13/18)--It's the continued redevelopment of the old Bennington Golf Club along South M-52 in Owosso, now know as Fortitude Outdoor Fitness.
"When I purchased the property, I kind of had the idea of what we have going, but it keeps expanding and it's just keeps growing every day," said owner Alec Faber.
The 115 acre property reopened three years ago. 80 acres are now developed, with fairways re-purposed into running and walking trails. An extreme obstacle course was just added along several putting greens and tee boxes.
"It's suitable for all levels of fitness. We have four, 6-foot and 8-foot flat walls. We have pull-up bars, tires, just a way to get everyone out here to enjoy nature," said Faber.
Team building, event rentals, Yoga, sand volleyball, and weekly Wednesday night 5k's are new this summer as well.
"You go from flat to hills and some of them are super inclined. You turn around and it's super steep," said personal trainer Missy Dora.
As for the extreme nature, Dora says this property has made her ready for the most challenging of courses.
"I've ran Warrior Dash before. Tough Mudder was hard, and this was legit. It will prepare you for some of the obstacles out there," said Dora.
Fortitude isn't just training people for extreme races. They're actually getting ready to host one as well. A special event is coming up, right here, on July 29th.
"We have Light up the Trails, a 5k lit up with head lamps. We'll have reflectives on all the trail markers. It's just a way to get outside and do something you wouldn't normally do, run at night," said Faber.
Over the next year, Fortitude's goal is to add several other one-of-a-kind attractions and amenities.
"Right now, I don't think anything else exists like this. We have a clubhouse we rent out with a full bar. As of right now, I think we're one of the few in Michigan," said Faber.
