FLINT (WJRT) (05/15/18) - Steady Eddy's Cafe is bracing for what's grown into its busiest time of the year.
The third annual Flint Restaurant Week is under way with more than 20 establishments on board.
"It's a great week, it's awesome, absolutely. It brings people in and gets recognition for the restaurants around the area. It's outstanding," said Chef Matt Veihl.
"It usually doubles our business," said Steady Eddy's Co-Owner Chris Veihl.
Restaurant Week happens to coincide with Steady Eddy's 25th anniversary.
"Twenty-five years, very amazing. So happy to be a part of it. Me and Chris took over three years ago and it's just been so successful and wonderful," said Steady Eddy's Co-Owner Nichol Albiar.
"Nichol and I have been running it for four years now and I think we're doing pretty good," said Chris Veihl.
Eddy's is located at the Flint Farmers' Market. It plans to roll out a special menu for the occasion, appealing to meat lovers, vegetarians and vegans.
"We have the Rory Calhoun, the falafel sliders, the beer-cheese pretzels, the stuffed hash browns," said Steady Eddy's host Andie McCarty.
"One of our signatures is the omelette, South of the Border. We're using our turkey chili," said Matt Veihl.
Food fanatics are asked to pick up or download a Restaurant Week passport, get it stamped at six locations, and then turn in at Blackstone's to claim a reward.
"You've got to love it. Cafe Rhema is new on it. Halo Burger, I'm excited to see Halo Burger on it. I love that," said Matt Veihl.
While restaurants typically compete for customers, Steady Eddy's crew said this week is about collaboration and proving to first time visitors that the city of Flint is a true dining destination.
"This is a big spot for food. There's a lot of up-and-coming people and chefs coming out of school, wanting to start businesses. Downtown Flint with the colleges, it's the place to be right now," said Matt Veihl.
