BAY CITY (WJRT) (1/18/2018) - The Michigan Department of Transportation is hosting a meeting in Bay City on Thursday evening to discuss an environmental assessment for replacing the Lafayette Bridge.
The state is planning a $45 million project to demolish the existing bridge over the Saginaw River and replace it.
Options include demolishing and rebuilding the new bridge in the same place, which would close the span for two years, or building the new bridge to the side of the existing bridge so traffic isn't interrupted.
The environmental assessment up for discussion Thursday looks at both construction options and their effect on the surrounding area. The meeting runs from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bay City Hall.
