LAPEER COUNTY (WJRT) - (02/19/18) - A Lapeer County driver attempting to avoid a group of deer had a close call with Marathon Township home instead.
A 28 year old Fostoria man was traveling north on Fostoria Road in his 2008 Chevrolet Silverado when he left the roadway while trying to avoid the deer.
It happened at 1:53 a.m. on Saturday, February 17 near Otter Lake Road.
Lapeer County Sheriff's deputies say the driver of the pickup truck was not hurt, but the home wasn't so lucky.
About 25-percent of the house was damaged during the collision.
Amazingly, the homeowners inside were not hurt either, despite the fact they were sleeping when the truck crashed into their bedroom area.
A gas meter was damaged too, creating a significant gas leak as well, so the couple had to evacuate while Consumers Energy crews worked to make repairs.
The driver was arrested at the scene and taken to jail under suspicion of driving drunk on a suspended license.
Lapeer County investigators say the driver had several past convictions for both offenses.
Charges are pending, along with the name of the driver.
