MICHIGAN (WJRT) - (04/11/17) - Michigan health experts say giving kids Easter chicks is a bad idea.
Baby chickens can carry salmonella on their feathers, feet and beaks.
Last year, nearly 1,000 people got sick from handling chicks this time of year.
They say children under 5 should never touch chicks. If you do handle one, wash your hands immediately - and never kiss a chick.
You should also only play with them outside.
