MID-MICHIGAN (WJRT) (2/12/2018) - Kroger is unveiling a new line of ready-to-prepare meals this month designed to compete with popular online services like Blue Apron and Hello Fresh.
For $14, a Kroger Pre+Pared meal will come with all ingredients measured and prepared so it can be served in 20 minutes or less. The Novi-based grocery chain says each one is enough to feed two adults.
The meals will appear in the deli at 15 Michigan Kroger stores later this month, including 12731 S. Saginaw Road in Grand Blanc, 4672 State St. in Saginaw and 1542 E. Pierson Road in. Flushing.
In March, the program will expand to 15 more stores, including 700 N. State St. in Davison.
Prep+Pared meals come in eight varieties and don't include any frozen ingredients. The varieties will rotate throughout the year to include seasonal tastes and produce.
“The Prep+Pared meal kits are restaurant quality and delicious,” said Corporate Affairs Manager Rachel Hurst.
She said the meals are designed for couples who crave a home-cooked meal but often don't have time to prepare one from scratch.
“Many customers enjoy cooking at home but don’t have time to pull together the freshest ingredients, flavorings and seasonings,” Hurst said. “Kroger’s Prep+Pared meal kits provide shoppers the opportunity to purchase the kits on their way home, prepare them in their own kitchen and serve them in minutes.”
