FLINT (WJRT) - UPDATE: (11/14/16) - The ABC12 Elga Diaper Drive just got a huge check for the Flint Diaper Bank.

It's all thanks to email votes from our community.

Elga Credit Union is one of four credit unions across the nation that won $5,000 for a local charity for getting the highest number of votes.

Representatives from the Love My Credit Union Campaign were in Burton on Monday.

ABC12’s Angie Hendershot was honored to help receive the check, alongside diaper bank co-founder Phil Shaltz and Cheryl Sclater, our diaper drive partner and dear friend from Elga.

Along with ELGA, there are several other Mid-Michigan credit unions taking part in the Love My Credit Union Campaign.

(10/13/16) - A couple of Mid-Michigan charities could win big, and it's all thanks to help from some local credit unions.

A contest is underway right now, and your vote could make a difference.

The holidays will be here before you know it, and you can easily help those less fortunate by voting in the Love My Credit Union contest.

"It's a nationwide campaign for credit unions to show what they do to support charities and their communities," said Tom Alter, chief marketing officer for Genisys Credit Union.

It takes just a second to log on and select your credit union and watch what they're doing to help their chosen organization. Multiple Mid-Michigan charities are among those who you can help win one huge donation.

"Genisys decided to focus on what we're doing to help the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan to help those families affected by the Flint Water Crisis," Alter said.

"Elga put up, of course, one of their biggest passions and that is the ABC12 Diaper Drive," said Cheryl Sclater, of Elga Credit Union. "We have a chance to win $21,000 to present to the ABC12 Diaper Drive for the Flint Diaper Bank."

The video with the most votes will win the biggest donation, but there are state-level prizes as well.

"It is truly a mission of credit unions; it's about people helping people," Sclater said. "So, this is how credit unions are showing."

Just by casting your vote, you're automatically entered to win a $500 gift card and another $500 to be donated to the charity you choose.

Along with ELGA and Genisys, there are six other Mid-Michigan credit unions taking part in the Love My Credit Union Campaign. They include Catholic Federal, Financial Plus, North Central Area, Sagelink, Frankenmuth and United Bay Community Credit Unions.
