LAPEER (WJRT) - (11-15-17) - A Mid-Michigan hospital says it's using new technology help keep newborns safe.

McLaren Lapeer announced it's offering the Infant Safety System by CertaScan. The machine creates digital footprint copies, which are saved to a registry. The hospital says it works like a fingerprint and would help reunite a baby with its parents following an abduction, missing child or natural disaster.

The technology is new to the region. It was introduced last month at McLaren hospitals in Bay City and Mt. Pleasant.
