FLINT (WJRT) (10/18/2017) - Because of the missing stop sign, neighbors were concerned someone could be seriously hurt or killed if something wasn't done soon.
The intersection of Hargott Avenue and Berrywood Lane on Flint's south side is busy.
Last Thursday, people in the area noticed the stop sign was gone. The city was contacted and this afternoon, after numerous complaints, the new sign was installed.
"I saw like the pole that holds it in a yard a couple houses down across the street, wondered what that was. That when she said the sign's missing. I said that's probably it," said Mercedes Menzies.
Word spread down the street that the stop sign was missing.
"A neighbor told me he had called and informed the police department and said they would call (the Department of Public Works)," said Menzies.
A couple of days later, Menzies was riding with some friends and they rolled up to the intersection.
"They're not familiar with this street. They didn't know there was supposed to be a stop sign. They just went right through and we were almost T-boned," said Menzies.
She called Flint Police herself and was told the message would be passed along to the public works department.
"There's a lot of things that need to be done but that should be Number One on the list, make sure you have a stop sign," said Menzies.
The old sign was knocked down when a vehicle hopped the curb. Now a brand new temporary stop sign is there to warn motorists.
