OWOSSO (WJRT) (12/29/2017) - Construction is complete on Shiawassee County's largest project in three decades and officials are ready to show off the Pleasant View rehab and nursing home.
The new 103,000-square-foot facility was built at 275 Caledonia Dr. off East M-21 in Owosso. The $25 million project replaces the Shiawassee County Medical Care Facility at 729 Norton Ave. in Corunna.
A public open house is planned for 5 to 8 p.m. Jan. 4 with tours being offered. A private ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for earlier in the day.
The event also will include a commemoration of the medical care facility's 175th anniversary, which is officially in February.
Taxpayers in Shiawassee County pay a 2-mill property tax to help defray costs of Pleasant View's operation. The new 10-acre complex offers long-term skilled nursing, memory, hospice and short-term rehabilitation care to more than 120 residents.
The Shiawassee County Medical Care Facility started in 1843 as the county's poor farm. It moved to the Norton Avenue location near downtown Corunna in 1953, where it has remained for the past 60 years.
The new Pleasant View complex is part of The Commons development on Caledonia Drive. Officials say it is Shiawassee County's largest single construction project in 30 years.
