One person dead after speeding vehicle crashes in Lapeer County, two others badly hurt

LAPEER COUNTY (WJRT) - (12/02/2017) - Deputies are investigating after the driver of a speeding car died in a Lapeer County crash late Friday night.

The Lapeer County Sheriff's Office says the incident began just after 10:50 p.m. when an unidentified vehicle was clocked at more than 50 mph in a 25 mph zone on LeValley Road.

A patrol car followed as the vehicle drove through the Marathon Road intersection. The vehicle continued, speeding through a stop sign and reaching speeds of more than 100 mph.

Deputies noticed debris as they followed the vehicle through the Klam Road intersection. Deputies say the driver lost control on a dirt road and hit several trees on the south side of LeValley.

Police found three people in the vehicle who have yet to be identified. One person was pronounced dead at the scene. Two others were transported to McLaren hospital in critical condition.

The Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating. We'll update you as new information becomes available.
