BUENA VISTA TOWNSHIP (WJRT) (9/13/2018) - Police from several agencies in Saginaw County were engaged in a standoff with a man possibly connected to Wednesday's homicide in Saginaw.
He was arrested after a standoff lasting at least a couple hours in Buena Vista Township. However, police were not immediately sure whether the person arrested is the person of interest they were seeking in the homicide investigation.
Police were actively searching for a person whose name came up during the investigation of shooting death of 26-year-old Deviontae Marcione-Jerome Banks in the 700 block of North Mason Street around 1 p.m. Wednesday.
While officers were looking for the person of interest, who has not been identified, they got into a vehicle pursuit. The possible suspect ditched a gray Chevrolet Malibu near downtown Saginaw.
Police lost track of the person in the Malibu after he ran off on foot. They conducted a search with K-9 teams and officers from several departments.
An officer spotted a man who possibly was the person from the Malibu at a residence in the 5000 block of Hess Road in Buena Vista Township a couple miles from the Malibu. That is where the standoff took place.
The scene is across from a Nexteer Automotive plant.
Officers had the house surrounded and the Saginaw County mobile incident command post was at the scene. Police were attempting to negotiate with the suspect to have him surrender.
A person inside the house was arrested without incident around 4:45 p.m. Police were still working to determine whether that person is who they wanted to interview regarding the Saginaw homicide case.
