Receding floodwaters in Clare County reveal extensive damage to some roads

CLARE COUNTY (WJRT) (2/21/2018) - Floodwaters are going down in Clare County, leaving a mess on some roadways.

Water from two days of heavy rain along with melting snow had no where to go across frozen ground. That caused it to cut a path along some roads, primarily gravel.

Clare County declared a state of emergency on Tuesday evening. Emergency Manager Jerry Becker said the declaration will open up the possibility for state resources.

Clare County has seen flooding issues before, but generally in the south end of the county where there are more rivers. This time floodwater accumulating on the surface from the rain and snowmelt had nowhere to go.

County officials completed a damage assessment on most Clare County roadways. They were turning their attention to residences and businesses on Wednesday.

Anyone with flood damage in Clare County is asked to report it by calling 211. A county damage assessment team will come and survey the situation.
