UNIVERSITY CENTER (WJRT) - (02/23/18) - Saginaw Valley State University students rallied Friday night to raise money for cancer fighters, survivors and caregivers.
The Relay for Life ceremony began by honoring everyone affected by cancer and was followed by the survivor-caregiver walk around the indoor track.
The group set a goal to raise 38-thousand dollars.
Donations will go to various programs including those that offer free hair and makeup services to people undergoing chemotherapy.
An important part of the effort is also to raise awareness and spark conversation between students and their parents, encouraging them to get regular screenings.
Relay for Life events are the main source of fundraising for the American Cancer Society.
