GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP (WJRT) - (02/16/18) - Grand Blanc Community Schools were the first district in the county to implement the ALICE training model. Now they are being even more proactive by getting parents involved, too.
The intense scenario-based training is something that Officer Jon Swartz is now taking to businesses and churches as well.
Alert, lockdown, inform, counter and evacuate create the basis for the program. Michigan requires schools to do three lockdown drills per year, but Officer Swartz says the model has become so successful that some schools in the district are requesting additional training.
They have also hosted a parent forum about ALICE with plans to hold another one. It allows parents to also get familiar with what protocols their children are being taught in case of an emergency.
Listen to Officer Swartz’s interview above for more information on protocol and communication during emergency situations.
