Sigma Nu fraternity house erupts in flames Tuesday night

FLUSHING (WJRT) - (11/21/17) - A landmark Kettering University fraternity house in Flushing went up in flames Tuesday night, forcing students to run for safety.

The fire started shortly after 9 p.m at the large Sigma Nu house in the 1500 block of Flushing Road near Elms Road. Flames were initially reported in the attic of the historic home.

Authorities said all 13 people who live in the house got out OK and were safe and accounted for. Kettering University officials were helping them find a place to stay.

The home was built in 1923.

Investigators were not immediately clear how the fire started. Firefighters from several departments remained at the scene dousing hot spots and cleaning up well after midnight.
