SAGINAW (WJRT) (3/1/2018) - While ABC12 was at Saginaw High School filming a story about an alleged lack of supervision in some classrooms, a student hanging out of a third-floor window may have proved the point.
A camera filming across the street caught a student stick a leg out of the window briefly, then put both legs outside for about 15 seconds while he appeared to be holding onto something inside the room.
At one point, most of his body was outside the window.
All this while working on a story about allegations from a parent that some classrooms had no adult supervision due to a lack of substitute teachers.
Saginaw Board of Education President Rudy Patterson said the scene is very scary and something needs to be done to prevent it from happening again.
Patterson said the student was clearly putting his life in danger.
"I have no idea if it's the band room," he said. "There might be a substitute teacher in that area. I know the band teacher was out."
A parent raised concern this week that some students didn't have a teacher and were not being supervised. The school district issued a statement that they have been short of substitute teachers, but it's not a common occurrence.
It's not clear if this is the room where the parent says there had been no supervision. Patterson couldn't say whether there was an adult in the room stopping the student from pulling his stunt.
"All of this is concerning," he said. "We spend an awful lot of time, energy and public dollars to educate children and that's where we are going to keep our focus."
Saginaw Schools Superintendent Nathaniel McClain did not return messages seeking comment on the video.
