FRANKENMUTH (WJRT) - (07/03/17) - About 2,300 runners and walkers will be in Frankenmuth Tuesday as part of a Fourth of July tradition. It's the forty-first annual Volkslaufe, the people's race. It's the way they celebrate Independence Day in Little Bavaria.
It begins Tuesday morning with a 10K run, followed by a 20K run, a 5K run, a 5K competitive walk and a 2K fun run.
"All of the races start and end in Heritage Park. So we're going to be hopping for the next two days here," said Amanda Weiss, of the Frankenmuth Jaycees.
The Volkslaufe is a way for the Jaycees to raise money for Frankenmuth area charities and organizations.
"We do all this hard work to give back to the community," Weiss said.
A number of streets will be closed in Frankenmuth Tuesday morning.
