LANSING (WJRT) - (10/26/16) - Two Lansing area brothers are now the subject of a terrorism investigation overseas.

A neighbor says the men mentioned they were moving away a while back but never said why or where.

The men, ages 30 and 31, were arrested in Tunisia under suspicion of belonging to a terrorist organization.

They've since been released due to a lack of evidence, but ordered to stay in the country pending the probe.

According to Tunisia government officials, the brothers came to the country after enrolling in a university.

Police say they found material relating to hard-line Islamic law where the brothers were staying.

Officers also said the men recently converted from Christianity to Islam.

Wednesday, an acquaintance told our sister station WILX in Lansing she's shocked by the allegations after seeing them just this summer.

"I never expected it from them, they seemed very quiet, to themselves type of people," said Katherine Donovan, their former neighbor.

The brother's last known Lansing address has since been abandoned and was red-tagged by the city in 2015.

The Tunisian wife of one brother was also arrested Tuesday.
