New legislation will provide first responders with more emergency information for accident victims

MICHIGAN (WJRT) - (04/15/1/5) - Drivers in Michigan may soon be able to add emergency contact information to their license.

The newly proposed legislation by Representative Peter Lucido also goes for state ID cards.

Lucido, who serves Macomb County, says having that information on a person's ID will help emergency responders quickly contact the right person, rather than digging through a person's wallet, car, or trying to crack the pass code on their phones.

"With changes to cell phones, we've made it more difficult for emergency personnel to be to find an individual's emergency contact information," Lucido said. "This proposal would make it easier for them to do their job while also helping Michigan residents to know that if they get in an accident, their emergency contact information is readily available."

The additional information would be optional.
