Candace Burns

Candace is happy to be working in her home state. She enjoys keeping the community that she loves informed about what's happening around them. She joined the ABC12 news team in May of 2010, and currently co-anchor's ABC12 Weekend Mornings.
 
Before moving to Flint, Candace reported in Lansing at WLNS. She also worked in Northern Michigan at WBKB, where she juggled close to every job at the station, anchoring, reporting and producing newscasts.
 
During her career, Candace has had the privilege of interviewing several notable people including Hall of Famer Earvin "Magic" Johnson, Reverend Jesse Jackson, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder, former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm, and several other congressional and state leaders. She also interviewed Wil Haygood, an acclaimed Washington Post reporter, and author of 'The Butler,' a book which inspired the box office hit movie.
 
She has won an Associate Press award for hard news, and was recently nominated for an Emmy.
 
Candace's enjoys reporting breaking news, but her favorite stories are the ones that shine the spotlight on good people who make positive impacts on their community.
 
She is a graduate of Wichita State University, where she was a scholarship athlete on the Shocker Women's Basketball Team. She earned a degree in broadcast journalism from the university.
 
Candace is very involved with the Mid-Michigan community, she often speaks at public events, she is active at her church Light House Memorial Ministries in Bridgeport Township, and she recently joined the First Ward Community Center Board of Directors. She is a strong believer that, with God, all things are possible.
 
She is member of the National Association of Black Journalists and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
