(07/27/10) - The Back to the Bricks car show and cruise is exactly three weeks away.
The dates this year are Aug. 17-21.
A trip last June along the Lincoln Highway was a new adventure to promote Back to the Bricks to a wider audience. Twenty-five custom and classic cars made the 630-mile trip through Ohio, Pennsylvania and New Jersey on the way to Times Square in New York.
ABC 12's Karen Gatlin traveled with the group, which included Back to the Bricks Chairman Al Hatch.
Hatch thinks we'll see some out-of-town visitors as a result. "I will certainly be checking, looking for out of state license plates."
The girls that made a lot of noise along the Lincoln Highway in a hot pink car have agreed to plan next year's promotional tour. "We have three possible tours," Karen Borton announced.
The announcement came at a post-trip party. They're already on the job. It will be a new itinerary with the same purpose -- attracting people to Back to the Bricks to help the local economy.
That effort also continues close to home. "We're trying something new in Davison on Friday the 13th," Hatch said. "We're gonna be giving away 250 shirts to the first 250 cruisers who show up at Graff Chevrolet. They'll get a business card and they got to go to the Davison downtown cruise and get it punched, and then go to John's Pizzeria."
"At that time, we'll give them a free shirt. The shirt will say something like all roads lead to the bricks."
Hatch says if it works well, it could be expanded to other communities next year.
Also expanding will be the sale of memorabilia merchandise.
"We're gonna have hats, T-shirts, bags, coffee mugs, day trippers, just a bunch of stuff, and all the proceeds -- 100 percent of the profit -- goes to keeping Back to the Bricks a free event," said Back to the Bricks merchandiser Carl McElrath.
It's a free, five-day event.
Tuesday of Bricks Week will feature a drive-in movie at the U.S. 23 Drive In on Fenton Road.
Wednesday and Thursday, it's the rolling cruise with several new mega sites along the way that will offer cruisers the chance to pull off, enjoy the cars, displays, food and entertainment.
Friday is a car show downtown with an ABC12 Car Tunes concert featuring Flash Cadillac.
Saturday is the official Back to the Bricks car show.
Monday ABC12 will rebroadcast the Lincoln Highway special. Tuesday-Thursday ABC12 will feature a Back to the Bricks special. All air times at 7 p.m.
ABC12 is a proud sponsor of Back to the Bricks.
