(08/08/11) - A new vehicle with one-of-a-kind features is on display in Grand Blanc at Al Serra Buick-GMC. The MV-1 is designed for drivers who have a difficult time getting around.
The vehicle is built in the United States and it is keeping jobs in Flint.
"It is a vehicle that is made specifically from the ground up for those who have needs in the wheel chair world. It is the first of it's kind," said Al Serra Auto Plaza President Joe Serra.
"It will be marketed towards a lot of people. Taxi cab companies will be interested in this... Limo companies, assistant living facilities, nursing homes. There is going to be a huge market for this," added Tom Delke, General Manager of MV-1 of Michigan.
The vehicle is made and assembled in the U.S. Production is helping to keep jobs in Mid-Michigan. "The frame is manufactured right here in Flint," said John Paris, Al Serra Buick-GMC.
"It is really exciting to see some local ties to this vehicle," Serra added.
Back in December, Flint's Android Industries Plant celebrated the new work. Nine months later, the finished product is generating excitement at the Grand Blanc dealership.
After only one week on the lot, the MV-1 looks like it will be a hot seller. "Everybody stops by because it is like something you have never seen before," said Delke.
The MV-1 will cost about $42,000. Al Serra will begin selling the vehicle in September.
