3 teens arrested, possible tie to series of armed robberies

Posted: Updated:

(08/16/11) - An early morning armed robbery in Flint leads to the arrests of three teenagers and police investigating a possible connection to somewhere around a dozen other crimes.

Flint Police say the trio, two adults and one juvenile, robbed the 7-11 off Dort at Eldon Baker around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Investigators believe they also robbed someone in the parking lot of a bar on Fenton Road and tried to rob someone outside of the Men's Club on Atherton Road, but he pulled a gun and scared them off.

"I heard rumors," says Sissy Blackmer, watching her twin grandsons playing outside.

She says she heard talk about what allegedly happened in the parking lot of the club, on Atherton Road, a couple of doors down from where she lives.

"No, it don't surprise me," Blackmer says.

"I'm glad they got caught," says Marilyn Marsden, southside resident and member of the crime watch in the neighborhood.

Marsden says she witnessed a robbery this past weekend, outside of a bar on Fenton Road.

"There was these guys that went right up and grabbed their purses and everything else. Cell phones went flying. The neighbors and I were sitting on my porch."
Now Flint Police are looking into whether all of the incidents are connected.  All but one occurred in parking lots, not inside the businesses.

Since August 5th, at least three bars were hit as well as two gentlemen's clubs.

The similarities center around three suspects wearing something covering their faces, one gun and a getaway car.

Three teens, Tuesday morning, didn't get too far before being arrested.

After the 7-11 was robbed, a Burton Police officer, who was checking the area, noticed the car.

There was a short chase involving Flint and Burton Police, Michigan State Police and the Genesee County Sheriff's Department.

The two adults are being held in the Genesee County Jail.  The juvenile is being held in the county's detention center.

Flint Police continue to investigate and will seek charges later this week.

No injuries were reported.
