(08/17/11) - Flint Community Schools will continue to provide busing.
That from Board of Education president Antoinette Lockett Wednesday afternoon.
Lockett says the board ratified a tentative agreement with the union during a previous meeting and will continue busing services.
There were concerns they would be outsourced and jobs would be lost.
Howard Gordon, the staff attorney for the union representing bus drivers tells ABC12, he was informed by the school district's legal counsel that Flint Schools will not privatize bus transportation.
Earlier this month, Gordon had said if the district privatized, the new company or sub-contractor would likely lay-off the employees and they would have to re-apply for their jobs.
There's about 80 drivers currently, according to Gordon.
Gordon had said the union feared a new company would likely only hire back 50-60 of them.
He has said deep concessions were made by bus drivers following massive state cuts to public education.
It's not clear what those concessions are at this point.
Lockett wasn't able to provide the information and we were not able to reach Gordon again.
