Davison native Tim Thomas returns with Stanley Cup

Posted: Updated:

(8/23/11) - Davison high school graduate and Boston Bruins goalie Tim Thomas returns to Genesee County with the Stanley Cup. The community will honor the hockey great and get a chance to see the historic trophy.

Tim Thomas made this promise in December about the Stanley Cup.  "It's definitely coming back to Michigan, but will it be in Flint, Davison, Mt. Morris, it's hard to say."

Eight months later, N-H-L's top goalie and Davison High Graduate delivers on his word to bring Hockey's Holy Grail,  The Stanley Cup,  to his hometown of Davison. The community is anxiously awaits their arrival. Davison teacher Angie Chinevere can hardly contain her excitement.
"It's going to be a great event tomorrow, (Wednesday) I can hardly wait to see it."

Chinevere isn't the only fan. Bob Washburn's daughter went to school with Thomas. He said he wouldn't miss the experience for anything.  "It's great for the community, hopefully people will be able to meet and talk to him. I am really looking forward to it. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity."

Davison Schools Superintendent Eric Lieske says the community will honor the Boston Bruin at Cardinal Stadium. The event begins at 1 p.m. He believes Thomas' story of hard work and perseverance is an inspiration for students. "I think we hear a lot of negative, it's great to have another positive such as the Stanley Cup coming to Davison and a local kid coming back to share the special moment with his hometown."
