(08/30/11) - A Genesee County mother admits her guilt into beating death of her son. Corrine Baker faced a judge and pleaded to second degree murder and second degree child abuse. Her son Dominick Calhoun died in April of 2010. He was four.
Corrine Baker's trial was suppose to begin sometime after Labor Day, but a plea agreement was a reached late Tuesday.
"In talking with Mr. Leyton's office, we decided it would benefit all parties to work toward a resolution instead of taking her to trial." said Baker's attorney Fred Meiers.
According to Meiers, his client realizes she should have done more her son and her guilty plea may be in some way how justice is served. "It's hard to look back at the facts and the actions or non actions that occurred during that weekend that she could have done differently."
During Baker's then boyfriend Brandon Hayes court hearing last year, Dominick's older brother described the abuse the 4-year-old suffered while living in the Argentine Township home. Hayes is accused of killing the little boy. "He was puking and everything, puking up blood. I think his leg was broken because he couldn't walk."
Corrine Baker will be sentenced 13 to 30 years in prison. As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors could use her testimony in Brandon Hayes trial.
